As part of her corporate social responsibility, FMN has started the construction of a vocational centre for special needs children in Methodist Primary School, Apapa. FMN has also committed itself to the provision of support staff for the successful running of the centre when the project is completed for at least the first year. The multimillion-naira vocational centre, which presents a calculated combination of welfare and education intervention for the good of the local community, is proposed to be finished in three months. The project which will be wholly funded by FMN was recently approved by the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) and will be executed in collaboration with Care-Giver Initiative; an organisation working to promote inclusive education for the mentally and physically challenged in Nigeria. A groundbreaking ceremony at the school’s premises held on Thursday, 16th March to signal the take-off of the project. Representatives of the School’s Management Team, FMN, State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Apapa Local Government Education Authority and Caregiver Initiative were present at the event. Mrs G.O Aliu, the head teacher of Methodist Primary School lauded the initiative and Mrs G.A Omogunloye, the head of the Inclusive Unit, was particularly delighted, noting that the project was coming at a much-needed time. Stakeholders got acquainted with one another and discussed expectations, potentials and the completion of the project in record time. Education and Welfare are core areas of FMN’s CSR focus. Others include Research and Skill Development; Environmental Sustainability; Health and Safety; Security and Infrastructural Development. This project will join hundreds of others that FMN has commissioned and completed in different parts of the country in her over five decades of operations.
